Gütersloh WRVS and the Community Support team held a waffle morning for single soldiers in the Mansergh Barracks Women’s Royal Voluntary Service (WRVS) lounge. The aim of the event, apart from enjoying some freshly made goods, was to promote the facilities WRVS have on offer and showcase the forthcoming events WRVS have planned over the next 12 months.
The Community Support team in Gütersloh are working with the WRVS Services c Officer, Kim Scott, to enhance the equipment within the facility. WRVS are putting together trips for single soldiers from both Mansergh Barracks and Bielefeld Station which will be run throughout this year with a view to organising more next year if they are popular.
One outing will be a day trip to Düsseldorf with a bus tour and a tour of the local brewery. Other trips include a few days in Berlin to see the historic city, with a tour around the town and an overnight stay. Colditz Castle will be another trip, where all the escape routes out of this famous building have been preserved and even a plane was built in secret to allow some prisoners to start an attempt to escape by air.
A trip to the Bergen-Belsen Memorial to experience the old concentration camp where a tombstone for Anne Frank and her sister is erected, is also planned. On a lighter note, a shopping trip to Dortmund, or somewhere similar, with lunch will be organised for the female soldiers.
