On Wednesday, June 7, at Laz Nord Gütersloh, students from King’s School celebrated their Sports Day. Accompanying them on this exciting day were also Year 7 and 8 students from John Buchan School (JBS) as well as German representation with children from Gymnasium Harsenwinkel, RVW and EGR.
Competitions were held for all the different athletic disciplines: 1500m, 800m, 300m, 200m, 100m, triple jump, long jump, high jump, shot, discuse, javelin and relay.
After an exciting day a student from each year group was awarded the prize for Best Girl and Best Boy.
Each King’s student was also competing for their own House so everybody was wearing their house colours while performing on the tracks. The King’s overall House winner was Churchill.
Chloe (8TW) and Humphrey (8CP), JBS Students, wrote: “We all had an amazing day – even though the weather wasn’t great, the atmosphere was very tense and electric.
“All the pupils were excellent; especially Melanie (8CP) who won the Victrix Ludorum – an award given to a girl or a woman who is the overall champion in a sport competition, especially at a school or a college.
“It is very hard to achieve but she persevered and the result was very rewarding; she is an inspiration to us all.
“As well as one of our own classmates receiving an award for her attitude, the whole team received an award for best overall performance; that’s another victory to be added into the JBS records.
“On behalf of all the students, we would like to thank both the John Buchan School and King’s School staff for making the day possible.
“In addition Chloe and I would like to congratulate the JBS 2017 team on an outstanding performance at the Laz Nord stadium and in particular, to Mr Robinson for organising a great team.”
