Brilliantly British

BRITISH style meets Hanseatic elegance once again in Hamburg.

From Friday, August 4 to Sunday, August 6, British Flair, north Germany’s unique lifestyle event, will return to Klein Flottbek, as it has for more than a quarter of a century.

Whether it is waxed jackets, hats and accessories, holidays, or finest single malt whisky, fans of the British way of life will find what they are looking for among a wealth of typically British high-quality products on offer from well known stand holders in the open air shopping area.

Culinary specialities such as fish and chips, fudge, Pimm’s, Guinness and Walkers Crisps provide a taste of Britain.

British Flair is also renowned for a varied show programme that transports spectators across the channel.

There is a host of attractions, such as Scottish Highland games, sheepdog demonstrations, polo and cricket matches, wellie flinging and a pipes and drums marching band. Paddington Bear and the Grand Theatre of Lemmings are not to be missed.

The British Flair Open Air Proms Concert is a special highlight and has cult status at Hamburg British Flair. In the tradition of the Last Night of the Proms concert in London’s Royal Albert Hall, promenaders can picnic under the stars to the music of the great composers and also join in the singing.

At Schloss Merode and Hamburg, it is fascinating classic cars that are the major attraction.

The sweet purr of their engines, chatting to their owners and the legends surrounding the different models take centre stage.

Proceeds of fund-raising activities, organised in partnership with Friends of Britain, are donated to charitable organisations in the region.

Buy your tickets for the tombola, for example and all the money raised will go to charity and there are attractive prizes to be won.

  • British Flair is also being held in the Lower Rhine region at Burg Linn in Krefeld, from Friday, September 8 to Sunday, September 10. Enjoy open-air shopping, charity, music and lots of fun and games. The moated Linn Castle, one of the oldest and loveliest castles on the Lower Rhine, forms a perfect backdrop.
