Golf season off to Flying start

This year’s Airport Paderborn/Lippstadt tournament, organised by the British Army Golf Club Sennelager, took place with a total of 96 players and was a great success with perfect golfing weather on the Whitsun weekend.
Since 2006, this tournament has traditionally taken place at the BA Golf Club, Sennelager and was initiated by Fritz Hentze – former Manager of the Paderborn/Lippstadt airport – who intended it to support and strengthen the Anglo-German relationship.
The men competed over two days to establish the gross and nett winners.
Notwithstanding the very good weather and golf course conditions, it was not possible for anyone to score under 80 on the first day. On the second day, however, Andreas Pietig, the eventual gross winner, achieved the best round of the tournament with a score of 79.
The ladies’ tournament was played on Sunday only. Melissa Groen, of the Paderborn University Golf Club, won the competition with a gross score of 88, ahead of Jane Wills who achieved a score of 89.
The Hole-In-One holiday voucher, donated by the Airport was not won, although several shots came close with Heike Winkler with a distance of 25cm at Hole 17, Andreas Böning with 23cm on hole 7 and a distance of 20cm by Chris Crombie of Golf Club Widukind Land also at hole 17.
However, following the presentation ceremony the voucher was subsequently raffled and Christopher King was able to celebrate over the win of a large prize, although he was left empty handed at the end of the tournament itself.
The proceeds gained from the prize draw were a total of €403.10 with half being donated to the Mutter der Barmherzigkeit Hospice in Paderborn and the other half to the On Course Foundation charity organisation for wounded British Servicemen.
