IT’S time to sharpen your sense of taste with some chilli peppers and spicy sauces.
Yes folks, the most hotly contested competition in the land of the bratwurst returns for another year and is looking for some asbestos-mouth contestants.
The Chili & Barbecue Festival 2017 – part summer celebration and part trade fair – takes place in Hannover on June 10-11.
And the organisers are looking for some cool contestants – or chilliheads – who can handle eating some of the most fiery foods in the world, in the form of chilli peppers.
Whereas chilli and barbecue festivals are well-established in both England and the USA, they are still relatively unknown in Germany.
This year’s Chili & Barbecue Festival takes place at an idyllic bathing area in Hannover’s Linden district called Fössebad, making a perfect start to the grill season.
Hot food lovers will enjoy the selection of specialities on offer from around the globe. There’ll be an opportunity to taste products and swap information with like-minded chilli and grill aficionados.
The weekend of entertainment also includes live music featuring choice artists, chilli-eating contests and grilling competitions suitable for the whole family.
There is even a homemade hot sauce contest, with entries being judged by a jury of experts. In this contest, even a mild but tasty sauce could win.
Entry is €12 per person for a weekend ticket. The Fössebad is located at Liepmannstrasse 7B, 30453 Hannover. Festival opening times: 10am – 8pm.
