Last week 1st Battalion Princess of Wales’s Royal Regiment (1 PWRR) added the title of 2017 British Army Germany (BA(G)) inter-unit volleyball champions to their recent list of sporting successes.
Going into the last round of fixtures without having lost a game 1 PWRR could have been forgiven for thinking this run would continue and they would be crowned undefeated champions.
However, 1 Armoured Medical Regiment and 26th Regiment Royal Artillery upset the form book on the day by inflicting surprise defeats on the ‘Tigers.’
Notwithstanding these losses, after five months of competition winning 13 of 15 games was still an impressive feat and definitely eased the disappointment of missing out on last year’s title.
With the competition finished Sgt Jonny Bedford said: “Congratulations go out to 1 PWRR for their victory, but can I say a big thank you to all the teams that entered the league this year. It was an excellent showing which made for an exciting competition.
“This is my last year as BA(G) Volleyball Secretary and I have thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
“Hopefully everyone will continue to show the same support and commitment to the sport next year.”
While the outcome of the league had already been settled there were still valuable points up for grabs with each victory counting towards the BA(G) Festival of Sport (FoS) competition.
By remaining undefeated throughout the final day it was 1 Armd Med Regt who secured maximum points for the FoS.
